First, it was Carol, then it was Rick.

This scene at the Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier #1 inspired me twice. The first time I saw it was when my friend Carol photographed it. I knew immediately that I wanted to make my own image there.

By the time, I got to photograph it, I’d seen so many other people shoot it, quite frankly I was over it.
Then I saw how Rick Sammon re-interpreted it with a new lens, the EF 8-15mm Fisheye. One of the common themes and lessons we teach at Canon is that when you change your lens, you change your story. This tribute to a Rick Sammon photo does just that.

The story had always been, oh you want to shoot at The Sticks. Cool. But when you photograph the same popular destination with a new lens, the story became, ‘wow, that’s different.’ Thanks to Rick for opening my eyes — and my lens to new possibilities.
